Online Assessments
The progress assessments that accompany the Discover Intensive Phonics at Home and Reading Horizons at Home software programs are more broad and powerful than ever before, and can now be accessed online!
The assessments are made up of four components: Word Recognition, Phonemic Awareness, Most Common Words, and Word Segmentation. With the Online Assessments, you can assess student knowledge and print a report showing results from all four areas of the test.
Progress assessments are given with the help of an administrator, so their results are dependent on the administrator's listening skills and judgment.

Recognition Assessment - measures a student's ability to rapidly read English words that incorporate a variety of sounds. The assessment begins with easier level words and moves to progressively more difficult words based on students' performance. The student's score is represented by a grade level equivalency score.

Most Common Words Assessment - measures a student's rapid recognition of sight words. Specific sight words that pose difficulties are identified.
Phonemic Awareness Assessment - measures a student's ability to recognize individual phonemes and rhymes. The use of graphics helps motivate and ensure students' knowledge of the vocabulary used.
Segmentation Assessment - measures a student's ability to accurately produce individual phonemes. Students' difficulties with specific individual sounds are identified in context of nonsense words to ensure that students are not reading memorized words. This information assists in prescribing extra practice in phonemes that are difficult to pronounce.
